Chitlang is a Newari village located just 24 km drive way from Kathmandu. Chitlang is the closest with just 22 km away and has the natural and artificial beauty. The village Located between two hills in north and south and a beautiful man made lake as a reservoir in the east. For its easy access and short time duration we made an itinerary as a Chitlang village hike trip. The subtropical, pine forests and rhododendron forest near the village makes this place a peaceful area to visit.
Chitlang village hike is a short but sweet which can be extend up to 2 to 3 days. The hike is refreshment for the people who don’t have enough time to explore Nepal but still can see and experience local Nepali Life. Most of the people are Newari and also known as a Newari village it is a mix of other ethnic group of people and culture. The people in Chitlang valley are farmer and most of the low area is cultivated. Goat farming and the goat cheese is their specialty which you can try in village. The village area has lots of vegetable, peach, pears farming areas and the goats grazing area too and local fish from the Indrasarovar lake.
Once the main highway to Kathmandu by foot and the shortest way to get to Terai and India is now a wonderful place for hiking and cycling. The first part of the day drives us to Thankot and we climb up to Chandragiri hill and down to Chitlang village through the thick forest. There are historical sites that were built from 245 BC by Indian king Ashoka on his visit to Kathmandu. The Shiva temple and the ashram built three hundred years ago is another main site to look for. Chitlang Village Hike will take you to the closest man made lake known as Indrasarovar which is used for Hydro electricity before departing to Hotel.
